Why some People Never gain Weight
Have you ever wondered how a person is not putting on weight even though he or she is eating the same types and amounts of food you are eating and doing the same level of physical activity as you? While you are suffering from obesity and unable able to lose weight, obesity has never been a concern for him/her.
To answer this question, we have to understand some basic pathophysiology about obesity. Obesity is not due to excess calorie intake. It is not due to excessive eating and not exercising enough. Obesity is a metabolic disorder. It is just a physical symptom of many other underlying metabolic dysregulations.
One of the most important hormonal regulations of obesity is the insulin level. High insulin levels promote obesity and low insulin level promotes maintenance of a normal weight.
The high insulin level usually happens as the body is trying to overcome the insulin resistance with secreting more insulin to overcome it. When the cells become less sensitive to the effect of insulin, the blood sugar levels start to rise which requires the body to make the pancreas secrete more insulin to overcome this resistance.
The insulin resistance and high insulin level is the main cause of weight gain and obesity. When you are insulin sensitive, your body will not require high insulin production to keep your blood sugar under control and you will not easily put on weight regardless your caloric intake and your physical activity.
When you are insulin resistant, your pancreas will secrete more insulin and your fasting insulin level will be up to 10 times higher than the insulin sensitive person. The high insulin level is the main cause of weight gain even when your caloric intake is very low and your physical activity is very high.
Restoring your insulin sensitivity is the only correct way to make your body lose weight in a healthy and permanent way.
