Data from the Nurses’ Health Study (NHS) that evaluated 92,837 women and 25,303 men revealed weight trends over the course of adulthood. Approximately 25% of the females in the study gained 44 lbs between the ages of 18 to 55 years of age. More importantly, a dose response relationship was observed between the amount of weight gained and the frequency of medical co-morbidities experienced. These medical co-morbidities include increased incidence of type 2 diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, cataracts, severe osteoarthritis, and mortality. Additionally, any moderate amount of weight gained during adulthood were associated with increased rates of cancers in both men and women.
Greater than 75% of the population has excess weight. Excess weight on the body in the form of fat is detrimental to overall health. Specific targeting of fat loss through the correction of the abnormal metabolism is what has established The Metabolism Clinic as the destination for weight loss. Gaining weight has become an urgent healthcare priority as the number of patients affected is the vast majority. Weight gain continues to be a worsening issue for a couple of well-known physiologic reasons. As we age our metabolism slows at a rate of 1-2% per year. Over the course of a decade or two this becomes significant and serves to partly explain why weight gain is so common. The second reason is due to an abnormal metabolism. When the metabolism becomes primarily lipogenic (meaning driven to form fat), the prospect of losing weight becomes impossible unless these fat forming pathways are turned off. Weight loss can only be achieved by these means as a permanent result. The Weight Loss/Metabolism Correction Program provides patients access to specialists that are experts in metabolism. The results of the weight loss program are double the best-selling weight loss drug on the market in a quarter of the time. To avoid the harmful effects of excess weight on the body; targeted fat loss through the correction of the metabolism is setting the standard for the treatment for obesity in the region.
